The Hunt: Rocket League

The Hunt Trophy

Rocket League debuted on PS4 in July of 2015 and immediately became one of my favorite multiplayer games of all time. It has earned every award it received and is definitely worth the time spent to grab the platinum.

Rocket League

One of my favorite things about this game is that the platinum can be earned naturally; you should earn every trophy just by spending time playing the game and completing matches. It will take quite a few matches to earn Stocked, but you’ll earn items every match you finish, local or multiplayer.

The only trophy I’ve really seen people struggle with is Far, Far Away…, which requires you to “Drive a total of 50 km”. This can be tough because there’s not a great way gauge how close you are to completing this. I’ve seen some people suggest that you need to use the same set of tires in order to get the trophy to pop, or distance travelled while boosting doesn’t count. If you’re struggling with this one there’s an easy “cheat”:

• Start a local match with no opponent.
• Then point your left analog stick left and hold it there with a rubber band.
• Use another rubber band to hold down your R2 button to have your car drive in a constant circle.
• Leave the game running for a few hours.
• Remove the rubber bands and score a goal to complete the match and the trophy should pop if you gave it enough time.

This is one of the few platinums that doesn’t feel like work, just play the game and you’ll earn it eventually. I saved Barras Bravas (“Play an Online game with a Friend”) for last and was able to platinum the game at the same time as a friend, which makes it one of the most special platinums of all. Happy Hunting!

The Hunt: Arkham Knight

The Hunt Trophy

Recently I picked up the Arkham Knight Season Pass and while all the content isn’t great, it did remind me how much I really loved this game. So why not go for the Platinum?

Arkham Knight Cover

Let’s start out with the need-to-knows: It’s going to take two playthroughs to finish this one up, you have to finish the New Game+ mode which lets you keep all your upgrades but sets the difficulty to Knightmare (enemies and tanks have more health and do more damage, no counter icons). You also need to finish all of the side missions which include the Riddler trophies; this is going to be a tough one if you decide to do it without a guide.

Getting the Riddler trophies for Riddle Me That is going to take you the largest time investment; there are 243 of these things this time around and you’ll need certain gadgets available to obtain some of them, so I’d recommend making one of the last things you go after. The Absolution trophy can be tough as you need to get 3 stars in all of the AR Challenges to hit 69 total. This is much easier with the additional challenges added through the DLC; otherwise you just need to power through it. If you have the DLC and find you’re not getting the trophy, make sure you completing the AR challenges with the appropriate character (their name will be in white), playing with the other characters (names in yellow) will not count toward the 69 stars you need for Absolution.

Arkham Knight Dual Takedown

The trophy that gave me the most trouble was Blunt Trauma, which tells you to “Perform every type of predator takedown”. If you don’t get this one naturally through your two story playthroughs and are trying to get it in the AR Challenges from main menu it may not pop, it wouldn’t for me. I hopped back into story mode and launched an AR Challenge there to get it to work. The rest of the trophies are either story related or self-explanatory and shouldn’t give you too much trouble. If you’re struggling with Brutality 101 try a team up AR Challenge, tag team takedowns count as toward the 15 moves in one combo.

I’m at the tail end of this one, just need to finish my New Game+ playthrough, looking forward to earning the Platinum for one of my favorite games.

The Hunt: Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture

The Hunt Trophy

Hey everyone, thanks for checking out the first installment of “The Hunt”, a little insight into my trophy hunting hobby. I’ll talk about what I’m working toward, Platinums I’ve recently completed, and maybe a little advice along the way for fellow trophy addicts.

That said, this is not is a guide, there are already a ton of resources and channels out there that cover specifics far better than I can or will have time to. However, I will let you know how difficult the Platinum achievement appears to be and maybe a few pitfalls I ran into you may be able to avoid. Let’s get started.

Everybodys Gone to the Rapture

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is a great game, with really awful trophies, I mean just the worst. “Passive Observer” comes to mind, the trophy listing says: “Discovered the power of interactivity by doing nothing at all“. What that actually means is: put down your controller and don’t touch it for 10 minutes. I’m not opposed to using guides to finish up trophies, but I generally dislike trophies that require a guide just to figure out how to earn them.

Like all games, I recommend you do a regular playthough and just enjoy the experience, the story for this game is really interesting and told in a unique way, so I personally feel like it’s worth the investment. That said, doing it this way will require more than one playthrough to platinum as some of the trophies require to you to do things like run to the end of the game without interacting with anything (again, not a great trophy).

Overall, this platinum is very easy to obtain. The hardest thing tested will likely be your patience, as once you’ve seen all of the story content the walking speed during the cleanup run may get to you (you can hold R2 to move slightly faster). Speaking of story content, I found that obtaining “Completionist – Triggered all of the story in the game” must be done in a playthrough. Which means you can’t use a guide to just find the one or two story elements you might have missed along the way, you need to trigger them all during a single run. So try to be as thorough with the story as you can your first time through. I recommend interacting with all of the phones, TVs and radios as well. I’m unsure if they count toward the trophy but they’re pictured on the trophy icon, so better safe than sorry.

The remainder are pretty simple, there’s a few more of those “stand here and don’t touch anything until the trophy pops” you’ll likely need a guide for, and the only challenge regarding trophies like “Bibliophile” and  “Graffiti Artist” is that there is zero contextual feedback for marking these as seen or read. You’ll have to exercise a little faith in the game to make sure these are being tracked. All in all, this an easy platinum attached to a pretty good game, I recommend you go for it.

Thank you guys for checking out the premiere of The Hunt. Please reach out to me at @sbfvgspodcast or @tacodouglas on Twitter with suggestions or advice for a fellow trophy hunter.
